3 Fall Drink Recipes (That Don’t Include Pumpkin Spice)

In Tasty by LisLeave a Comment

Autumn is finally here. The air is crisp and rain is tap-tapping on the windows, which is all the reason we need to stay inside and cozy up with a drink.

Take a cue from Mother Nature and switch up your usual beverage for something new. Here are three fall drink recipes that will tantalize your tastebuds:

Pairs Well With a Good Book: London Fog

If you need to de-stress, a London Fog is the drink for you. The bergamot in Earl Grey is believed to have a calming effect that alleviates anxiety and boosts your mood.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup boiling water
  • Earl Grey tea bag
  • Dried lavender
  • Vanilla syrup
  • ¾ cup steamed milk

Instructions:

  1. Steep a bag of Earl Grey tea with a pinch of dried lavender for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Toss out the tea bag.
  3. Pour about ⅓ of the tea into your favorite mug.
  4. Add a dash of vanilla syrup.
  5. Pour steamed milk over the top until the mug is full.
  6. Enjoy.

You can also use honey or agave in lieu of vanilla. If you don’t want to use dairy milk, I recommend plain almond milk. I’ve tried this recipe with coconut milk (too sweet) and soy milk (too overpowering) and it just didn’t taste as delicious.

Complements Homemade Waffles: Apple Cider Mimosa

For an autumn makeover on the classic brunch cocktail of choice, switch out orange juice for apple cider. Yes, it’s as easy as that. And be sure to take the extra minute to rim the glass with cinnamon and sugar – the addition of a little sweetness really rounds out the drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle champagne
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • Sugar and cinnamon for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and cinnamon on a plate.
  2. Carefully wet the rim of your champagne flute, then dip into the cinnamon and sugar.
  3. Fill champagne flute ¼ full with apple cider.
  4. Top it off with champagne.
  5. Sip with delight.

The Perfect Nightcap: Spiced Vanilla Pear Cider

Here’s a way to jazz up your apple cider without getting complicated in the kitchen. This recipe is from Jamie at My Baking Addiction and, daaang, does this woman know how to whip up a delicious beverage!

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 2 quarts pear juice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 vanilla bean pod
  • Rum or bourbon

Instructions:

  1. Combine the cider, juice, and spices in a soup pot.
  2. Slice the vanilla bean pod in half lengthwise and add it to the pot.
  3. Bring to a simmer, whisking often.
  4. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Ladle into a mug.
  6. Add a shot of rum or bourbon.
  7. Savor the flavors.

Did you notice how easy this is to make? It’s an excellent choice for when you have guests over because you don’t have to worry about getting distracted and making a mistake. Just throw everything in a pot and simmer.

Try It

  • If you’re new to making cocktails, don’t overdo the booze. Start with a little, then add more to suit your taste. If you start off with too much, you’ll have a hard time getting the ratio just right and you’ll end up overfilling the glass.
